quickLIGHT™

quickLIGHT is the tinder Exotac designed to sit between a spark and a sustained fire. A ferrocerium rod throws a shower of sparks at roughly 5,500 degrees, but a spark only starts a fire if it lands on something fine and dry enough to catch and then burn long enough to ignite kindling. Natural tinder does this inconsistently, especially in bad weather. quickLIGHT does it every time.

It is dry-treated cotton, which is the important distinction. Petroleum-jelly cotton balls work but leave your hands and your kit greasy; quickLIGHT is clean and dry to the touch, packs without contaminating anything around it, and still lights from the smallest spark. Each tab burns hot for one to two minutes, which is far longer than you usually need. That surplus is deliberate: light a tab, get your kindling going, then snuff the tab out and put it back for next time. One package lasts a long time in practice.

It is also water resistant. The dry treatment beads water rather than absorbing it, so a tab that got rained on will still light once you knock the water off and fluff the end with dry hands to expose fibers. That fluffing step is the whole technique, and it takes a second.

quickLIGHT is sized to store inside the waterproof capsules of the fireROD, fireROD XL, and nanoSPARK, which turns any of those tools into a complete, self-contained fire kit. It also works with matches or a lighter when you want a reliable flame source and do not trust the conditions. It is made in the USA and covered by Exotac's lifetime warranty. For most kits, a strip of quickLIGHT is the cheapest insurance you can carry. Keep a strip in every fire tool that has a capsule and a spare in a sealed bag in your first-aid kit, and you have removed tinder as a point of failure across your whole system.
